The Ambassadors' Concert Choir has been
thrilling audiences with its spirited musical offerings since 1979.
The Choir performs a diverse blend of
sacred and secular music of all genres and many cultural traditions
-- classical, spirituals, gospel, hymns and popular music. The Choir
is predominately African-American by nature but people of all
cultures are welcomed.
In 1979 Kenneth Kilgore
convened approximately 25 local singers and musicians to form a
choir that would provide an opportunity to perform all types of
sacred music at the highest levels of professionalism and
musicality.
The Choir was originally part of the Fine
Arts & Music Department of St. John Missionary Baptist Church
and was called The Ambassadors of Faith. It became a separate
community organization and changed its name to The Ambassadors'
Concert Choir on September 6, 1985. Maestro Kenneth
Kilgore continues in the role of artistic director.
During their 20th anniversary season
legendary gospel songwriter Richard Smallwood joined in the
celebration as a workshop clinician. At the invitation of President
Clinton the Choir participated in the official dedication of the
Oklahoma City National Memorial. More recently the Choir were
featured performers at the dedication of the Oklahoma Capitol Dome
and the inauguration of Governor Brad Henry. Public accolades
aside, the Ambassadors are proudest of their tradition of giving
glory and honor to the Father, the Son and the Holy
Spirit.
The Ambassadors'
Concert Choir extends a resounding note of thanks to our audience.
Your appreciation of our music and your faithful support have
made the journey worthwhile.
"Lift every voice and
sing, till earth and heaven ring." ~ James Weldon
Johnson
